Workshop on Elearning and Open Education

2007_08_30-0000402.jpgAn excellent workshop is a combination of strong presentations, good chairing and lots of interaction with the participants. Add to this the possibility of linking to a broader audience using video conferencing and things start to get really exciting.
So we were very fortunate on 30 August, to host a workshop at the UNU Media Studio that brought together brilliant presentations from David Wiley, Hide Tokuda, Derek Keats and Peter Haddawy. Many of those names will be familiar to you if are working in the area of online learning, open educational resources or even education 3.0.
We had an audience in the Media Studio and many more participated through video conference from the University of Hawaii, University of Guam, University of Sydney and the National University of Samoa.
The workshop was chaired by Norman Okamura from the University of Hawaii and he steered us towards some very solid and practical recommendations for UNU and UNESCO. For instance, both the UNU and UNESCO were encouraged to integrate Creative Commons or other open licensing schemes into the materials developed for their regular training and capacity development programmes! Our workshop was part of a bigger conference on the Changing Roles of Higher Education in a Globalized World.
